The Nature
of Wood
Unique
charm
In both the manufacturing and finishing of our furniture, we try to bring
forth the character and beauty of the wood. All hardwood lumber has variations
in the color and grain; this is part of its natural beauty. But these
variations make it impossible to guarantee an exact match in finish between
two pieces of furniture, even though identical finishing processes are
applied. These characteristic qualities give solid wood furniture its
unique charm.
A
natural fiber
Hardwoods are a natural fiber. Because most solid woods are open grained,
your solid wood furniture will breath, expand and contract with temperature
and humidity changes even after protective finishes have been applied.
These minor cracks are part of the natural beauty of the wood. Care in
controlling the furniture's environment can help minimize cracking and
warping.
Control
environment
Keep the indoor humidity in the 35 to 45 percent range to minimize these
effects. Ultraviolet light from the sun and fluorescent fixtures can cause
chemical changes in the wood and/or finish, so avoid placing furniture
in an area where the sun will shine directly on it. Keep furniture away
from direct sources of heating and cooling. Avoid storing furniture in
an attic or cellar type environment.
Potential
changes
If the humidity moves out of the ideal range, solid wood table tops could
expand or contract, causing a gap in the center or at ends where the two
halves meet. It can also cause splits or cracks in the grain pattern and
joints of the wood panels. These are not abnormal -the table is not considered
defective.
Generations
of pleasure
With proper care, though, your table will last your entire lifetime and
make a treasured heirloom for future generations

The beauty of solid hardwood is
much more than "skin deep." Neither synthetic nor engineered,
it comes from nature--the simplest and most reliable of origins.

Our solid hardwood tables are made
up of many pieces of wood. Each is unique and you may notice natural
variations in color. The lighter pieces were closer to the tree's
bark, while the darker pieces were closer to the tree's center.
All are equally strong and impart the beauty and value that make
solid hardwood second to none.

Tree grow limbs, which fall to
the forest floor as the tree matures. What remains are knots in
the wood. Each time you see a knot on a hardwood surface, you'll
know a tree limb once grew from that spot. These natural markings
have absolutely no effect on the wood's durability and structural
integrity. Knots and other caracteristics are much like the nubs
you find in such fine natural fabrics as silk and linen; they are
indications of genuine quality.

The unique grain patterns of solid
hardwoods are related to the tree's growth rings. the distinctive
differences come about as the wood is prepared for use in your home.

Trees absorb minerals and other
essentials as they grow and prosper. You may see their traces in
our tables. These natural characteristics let you know you are enjoying
the authentic item, and not an artificial wood imitation.
